1st Prestwick Company - January 2020

The 1st Prestwick Company which was formally the 11th Ayr was formed in 1922 under the captaincy of Victor Hill and was attached to the Ayr West United Free Church. In 1924 the company relocated to St Cuthbert's church in Prestwick and Robert John Hastings was the first captain there. In 1981 the company became known as the 1st Prestwick company under the captaincy of David Donald. Captain Donald served the company until 1987 and was succeeded by Captain Walter Anderson who retired in 1996. Our present captain who has served the company since then is Sam Gilmour and the company is now attached to Monkton and Prestwick North Parish Church.

Our company meet every Friday during the school term in the halls at Monkton and Prestwick North Parish Church. Our 2019/2020 session commenced on 6th September 2019 with our end of session display night taking place on the first Friday in May each year.

We meet in three groups;

Each section has a different uniform, which you will be able to see when you come. Any boy can come to BB as long as they are at least five years old!

Section Age Group Time
Anchor Boys [P1 - P3] 6.00pm - 7.00pm
Junior Section [P4 - P7] 6.30pm - 8.30pm
Company Section [S1 - S6] - 7.15pm - 9.45pm.

Throughout the BB session we actively participate in Battalion events and competitions, last session our Junior section were the overall winners of the Ayr Battalion Championship and we were honoured to host the Annual Battalion Church Parade and Service at Monkton and Prestwick North Parish Church in May 2019.

During our BB year we actively fund raise for our company through our extremely well attended and supported coffee morning. We also have a nominated company charity each session and our most recent chosen charity was the West of Scotland Deaf Children's Society, we held a sponsored silence with the boys and were able to raise £1000 for the charity which was an amazing achievement.

As well as fundraising for charities we have benefited from donations from the Co- operative Food Store for musical instruments and also a grant from South Ayrshire Council for a shed for the grounds of our church which has enabled us to buy additional equipment.
