Maintenance Updates

2023

Side wall next to Roberson & Armitage was damaged due to a leak from our boiler outlet pipe. It turned out to be a pressure issue, so was subsequently sorted. The wall will need rubbed down and re-painted. We agreed new three year gas and electricity contracts, although these are higher than previous contracts before 2022. Also have stored surplus stock for the CIA Foodbank, as in previous years.

2022

Kitchen window damaged in storm at start of the year, had to be replaced. New Front Doorstep tiles fitted during the summer. Boiler serviced plus more food items stored for CIA Foodbank.

2021

External Paintwork completed plus some internal decoration where required. Back Roof - tiles cleared of moss. Boiler serviced and helped out Christ In Action Foodbank by storing various food items, when they required additional space.

2020

No work carried out due to Covid 19 Pandemic, other than essential tidying & cleaning.

2019

Another few jobs completed including the top of the roof re-sealed, fire extinguishers serviced and regular tidying and cleaning of both internal & external areas. During 2020 the plan is to get the external paintwork done (weather permitting).

2018

Another few minor jobs completed including - boiler service and regular tidying and cleaning of both internal & external areas. Also clearing the back roof of moss and cleared the rear gutters in the Autumn. As a result of this work we need to get the felt at the top of the roof re-sealed in 2019.

2017

Another few minor jobs completed including - new guttering at the front of the building, boiler service and regular tidying and cleaning of both internal & external areas. We will look at clearing the back roof of moss and clearing the rear gutters in the spring next year.

2016

There were a few minor jobs completed this year including - emergency lighting installed, boiler service, gloss painting of front door and entrance hall area, back area cleared of weeds etc, gutters cleaned out and minor roof repairs (as a result of roof inspection). The building is also cleaned on a regular basis, both internally and externally.
This has now left no current jobs outstanding although we will carry out a thorough inspection of the premises in the new year.

2015

Thanks to donations received the summer programme of work was completed. This included redecoration of internal fireplace walls and the ladies toilet. We also carried out external redecoration, which enhanced the building's appearance. Various electrical work was also completed - this included a new fuse box fitted plus electrical pat & appliance testing. As a result of this testing some electrical work was required to comply with new standards.
This has now left a few smaller jobs outstanding which we aim to complete in 2016. Hopefully you will see the improvements of this work completed when you visit Headquarters.

2014

A £2,500 grant was received from The Baird Trust for the new heating system installed, providing more efficient heat for the building. We also received a grant from The Ferguson Bequest Fund for £1,000 which has been mostly spent on re-staining the external woodwork at the front of the building, both internal fireplace walls tidied up and redecorated, ladies and gents toilet walls re-papered and decorated and a new carpet fitted in the meeting room. The Battalion takes this opportunity to thank both these organisations for their funding received.
Other jobs completed this year include clearing back area of weeds etc, clearing back gutter, painting new window surrounds, sorting front door lock and notice boards and pictures back up on walls. Also making sure the place is kept clean and tidy for all visitors.
Outstanding work at present is the light fitting in the meeting room and checking the fuse box is up to date. After that is completed we are required to get the Electrical PAT testing plus fixed Electrical testing carried out.

2013

A £3,000 grant was received from The Baird Trust for new rear windows and work to cure dampness in both downstairs rooms. This work has now been completed at a cost of slightly over £3,000. At present a de-humidifier is working in the meeting room and both fireplace walls have been stripped of wallpaper.
Both these walls now seem to be drying out okay as a result of the external work completed - these are checked on a regular basis. The Battalion takes this opportunity to thank The Baird Trust for this funding received.
For next year the plan is to complete the internal re-decoration of these affected areas (including window surrounds) and look at upgrading the heating system, to be more efficient. It is also hoped to do external paintwork in addition to these other jobs.
